Why You Are Struggling To Develop a Good Core!

  1. You Have No Strategy in Place

Developing your core with a strategy and not just a

'single exercise.' is number one on my list as it's quite simply the part that everything else hinges on. If you don't train your core at all, this isn't your problem yet, so get in front before you start and read up. On the other hand, if you have been trying to improve your core and haven't had the success you aimed for, then this is where you can begin to see big changes .

Most people who train the core do so very, very poorly. Not only do people simply not know or understand many core exercises and techniques, but when they are applied they are typically performed either incorrectly or without enough concentrated form to produce any real lasting benefits.

2. Low vocabulary of exercises

Most people use between 1 to 4 different exercises for the core, and this remains pretty much the same for someone's entire time training. Further to this all of these exercises will be typically superficial based exercises, as it's the aesthetic improvements that are focused on.

While progress can be made with this approach, it can take longer to develop visible results, can create imbalance with other supporting areas and leaves the remaining core system poorly functioning.

3. Lack of quality workout time & consistency

With then the poor vocabulary of exercises, we tend to see a lack of quality workout time and consistency. 'Quality workout time' is the key phrase here, as this is the time that the core is properly being challenged to have any real benefit. While anyone can take part in a 30 minute abs blast 3 times per week and just go through the motions, it's never going to contain enough core activation to give you the results that you could potentially have.

4. Failure to incorporate all of the core

Kind of hitting back onto the poor vocabulary of core exercises, this is essential to ensure that your 'core system' is strong and functional. There are benefits to be had beyond aesthetics with a great functioning core.

5. Lack of training Intensity

This is an issue when training most body parts, but without doubt the core is a region tends to be a number one area for shrinking away from the intensity required to produce results. I know this may not be nice to hear, but If you are stopping because it just starts to burn a little, you are robbing yourself of some quality aesthetic and functional gains.

6. Not understanding of how or when to step up and

periodisation of training phases.

Core training for most people tends to be very one dimensional. A low choice of exercises, performed the same way a thousand times over. Not only is this boring, and leaves you in a genuine no route of performance based progression, it will stunt your aesthetic progress and leave you overall never hitting your true potential.

7. Pebble dashing your routines

This is a problem that has gotten worse with social media, and again, it isn't limited to just the core, people do it with all types of workouts.

So, you go on YouTube or Instagram or wherever it is you go to find a new exercise. You hit the gym, you did in, try the 'exercise' a few times, and then next week you start the same process again. Now, I'm all for variation, I am. I've just stated that people lack exercise vocabulary, but when you are cycling through exercise's so frequently and without it being purposely implemented into an overall strategy to develop robust progress, you are 9 times out of 10 going to end up doing the following;

  1. Not understand how to work the core with the new exercises and so end up in a sense doing nothing more than just moving 🤷🏻‍♂️

  2. Not be competent enough with the strength of your core to be able to produce the exercise effectively, which again leads you to be doing nothing more than just moving 🤦🏻

  3. Not spend enough time on a particular exercise to allow development. 😞

  4. Not be inclusive in your approach to core training therefore never see the benefits. 😑
